When it comes to donating eggs at URE, all our donors are young, healthy women, with or without children, who wish to help other women become mothers. To do so, they must pass several strict screening procedures, as well as the instructions that accompany any IVF treatment, such as: self-administered daily medication, ultrasound and hormonal checks, surgery, etc.

Being an egg donor isn’t as easy as it may seem from the outside. The requirements for donating eggs are numerous. We’ll try to explain them to you, as at URE Centro Gutenberg, we understand that many women are hesitant to take this step due to lack of information or fear. Until what age can you donate eggs?

In our Unit, to be eligible to donate eggs, you must be between 18 and 32 years old. This age range always refers to young women of childbearing age, with good ovarian endowment, and free of medical conditions. This is because, as we’ve explained before, a woman’s age greatly influences her fertility.

Obviously, and as you can see, to donate eggs, you must be of legal age. The law establishes a maximum age of 35 and a minimum age of 18.

If you want to donate eggs, you must be in good health

As you can imagine, your health must be optimal. This means leading a healthy lifestyle and avoiding certain habits that are harmful to fertility. It is also preferable that you engage in regular physical activity. Of course, you cannot have a personal or family history of diseases that can be genetically transmitted, nor present any sexually transmitted diseases.

Egg donation involves health and genetic screening

It’s important to know that all donors at URE Centro Gutenberg must undergo strict health screenings, both physical and mental.

These screenings will begin with an initial contact by phone or email, followed by a discussion and personal interview with our psychologist so we can get to know you better. A complete medical and gynecological examination, a psychophysical exam, general blood tests and serology, karyotype, and genetic studies will then be required.

All of these tests are performed in our Unit by the donation team, so that the recipient of the donated eggs can enjoy the highest safety and quality standards.

Please note that at URE, we do not select all the donors who contact us. In fact, a large proportion do not pass the initial personal interview. We select approximately 15 to 20% of the donors who come to our Unit.

There is a maximum number of children you can have for egg donation

In this regard, Spanish law establishes a maximum of six children born in Spain per donor. Therefore, if you already have your own children, they count.

Also, you should know that if you have already donated to other clinics, we must contact them to find out the results of any treatments performed on your eggs.

Other specifics about egg donation

Donation is always anonymous. It’s important to keep this in mind. The woman receiving your eggs won’t know who you are, and you won’t know who you are donating them to. This isn’t a whimsical requirement: Spanish law requires anonymity for egg donation.
Donating eggs does not reduce your chances of becoming a mother in the future. Every woman is born with a fixed number of eggs, which are used up over time. Donating your eggs means making the most of some of them that would otherwise be lost.
Egg donation allows women and/or couples who have no other option but adoption or abandoning their desire to become parents to have children. You can help women experiencing menopause, women with impaired ovarian function, women who have undergone radiation or chemotherapy, or those who have had their ovaries removed, etc.
