Mónica and her Ángel. “Don’t let fear keep you from living the most wonderful experience in the world!”
Today we bring you a new, true story from one of the mothers who underwent treatment at URE Centro Gutenberg, and whose dream we were fortunate enough to help make come true.
Her name is Mónica, she’s the mother of a beautiful baby and she’s here to tell us about her experience with assisted reproduction and her time at our fertility clinic. And, of course, she’s going to talk to us about her initial doubts and how she overcame them.

Tell us how you heard about URE Centro Gutenberg
I’m not from Málaga, so when I started searching for a fertility clinic I didn’t know where to begin.
It was my husband who had very good references as he knew Dr. Leopoldo del Burgo. So we decided to make a first appointment to learn more. We also made appointments with other clinics.
After your first appointment with us, what made you choose URE Centro Gutenberg to become a mother?
Dr. Sánchez Rosa saw us at our first appointment. He asked us a lot of questions and examined me. Unlike other clinics, he noticed that in my case I would need to start treatment with inhaled medication. A longer protocol, but very effective in our case.
That difference was what made us value the doctor’s experience and knowledge above others we had also visited, and thus made us choose URE Centro Gutenberg as the best option.
Explain to other mothers what doubts you first had regarding assisted reproduction treatment
The first concern is if you’ll be able to become a mother or not. If your body will respond, if it will hurt, if the process will take a long time… I was even concerned about how much weight I would gain!
I was also worried about whether it would involve a large investment financially, and above all else, emotionally. I didn’t know how I was going to deal with the whole process.
What fertility treatment was recommended to you by the doctors? Artificial Insemination? In Vitro Fertilisation? Egg Donation?
In our case it was clear: in vitro fertilisation, as my husband had a vasectomy over 20 years ago. Therefore, our treatment would involve a testicular biopsy and IVF.
What fears did you have? How did you overcome them? How did you feel during treatment…?
The biggest fear I had to overcome was the needles! But I have to say that it wasn’t as bad as I had imagined and there were fewer injections than I expected.
Then, I was afraid of not doing things correctly: resting enough, getting enough physical activity… I was nervous about finding out if there were enough eggs, how many would fertilise, how many would develop correctly and what quality they’d be…
It’s constant anxiety, because you want to be a mother and you realise that many factors come into play. But all of the staff who helped me during my treatment at URE Centro Gutenberg knew how to help us through the process. From the doctors at each visit, to the nurses each time blood needed to be drawn, and the receptionists at each new appointment. They are very friendly and approachable professionals.
What advice would you give to other mothers and couples who are considering fertility treatment?
The first step is the hardest, but once you’ve taken it the journey is much easier than it seems. My first appointment was on 23rd January and on 18th March I already had a positive beta-hcg test.
