The true story of Iwetta and Antonio on their journey to parenthood through assisted reproduction
We’reIwetta and Antonio, a couple who met and fell in love almost ten years ago. My husband is from Málaga and I was born in Poland, but I moved to Malaga ten years ago for work. Here I fell in love not only with my husband, but also with the city of Malaga. It was soon evident that we wanted to build a future here together. After a wonderful wedding, we decided we wanted to start a small family.
After quickly getting pregnant and the initial excitement, we were soon met with sadness. It ended up being an ectopic pregnancy and I had to undergo emergency surgery. My fallopian tubes had to be removed since the pregnancy wasn’t going as it should have.
Our desire to become parents was still strong though, so we started treatment at a fertility clinic where the first two attempts were unfortunately unsuccessful. The pain and sadness weren’t making our journey any easier.
Some friends had spoken to us about Clínica Gutenberg, so we scheduled our first appointment. The first phone call I received really surprised me – kindness and compassion are top priorities at this clinic, and I could sense that from the very beginning.
The first step on a long, rocky road is usually the hardest one to take. At our first appointment, the whole team made it clear to us that they would do everything in their power to make our dream of becoming parents come true.
Accompanied by Dr. Sánchez Rosa, we took all of the important preliminary tests and then decided to undergo in vitro fertilisation treatment. The empathy and professionalism demonstrated by this doctor gave me hope and strength. I remember leaving the clinic and saying:
‘’I’m going to be a mom, and we’re going to have a Gutenberg baby!”
As time went on and we visited the clinic several times, we really got to know the entire team and form a special bond with some of the staff. I met Rocío, my embryologist, and today I can say that she holds a very special place in each of our hearts. She was actually by my side during each of our embryo transfers, and even during the difficult moments of Covid! It’s incredible how warm and kind the Gutenberg team are. You simply feel at ease from the very first appointment.
Our desire to have children was a long and rocky road, and we had our doubts from time to time. We also shed our fair share of tears and felt scared, which often made us wonder if we should stop treatment. But the team always kept our hopes up.
Because only those who don’t give up reach their goals!
That mentality gave me the strength to stay strong whenever I needed it, for example starting over at the beginning of each new cycle. During treatment I always received good advice and support. What I liked most was that Dr. Sánchez always met us with a smile and was very optimistic about achieving a positive outcome.
At home, questions and doubts would flood my thoughts again. I would send an email or make a call, and I would always get a reply from the doctor right away. That level of care made me feel a sense of certainty, and I started to fully trust in the process. And not only trust in my chances with this clinic, but also in myself and in my body again. I think that one of the most fundamental aspects of this journey is to ‘’trust’’ that, as women or as couples, we’ll be capable of becoming parents (with a little help).

After a chemical pregnancy, some unsuccessful cycles and then a long break during which I decided to lose some weight, almost a year later we took the leap and transferred our last blastocyst. And it would change our lives.
Just 11 days after our embryo transfer, we were looking at a positive pregnancy test! We couldn’t believe our luck, and this time it was going to stick.
Our daughter was born in December 2023. After six long years we had finally become the little family we had been waiting to become.
Our family can’t express with words how grateful we are for the doctors and embryologists at Centro Gutenberg.
Looking back on everything now that I’ve become a mother, I would without a doubt go back and travel down all those difficult roads all over again. I would turn over every single rock while searching for the infinite love I now feel as a mother.
