From Canada to Spain: an international fertility journey built on trust and hope

When the desire to become parents is strong, many couples are willing to explore options beyond their home country. This is the story of a Canadian couple who, after several unsuccessful fertility treatments, decided to look abroad for new possibilities. Their search led them to Spain, a country internationally recognised for its expertise in reproductive medicine, and ultimately to URE Centro Gutenberg in Málaga.
What began as extensive online research soon became a carefully planned journey supported by clear communication, personalised medical care and a multidisciplinary international approach. Today, they share their experience to help other patients who may be considering fertility treatment abroad.
Patient Testimonial:
1. How did you hear about URE Centro Gutenberg?
We live in Canada and had already gone through three unsuccessful rounds of intrauterine insemination (IUI). IVF was not financially accessible for us in our country, so we started researching clinics abroad. We quickly learned that Spain offers some of the best fertility clinics with high medical standards and more affordable treatment options.
As we were planning a holiday in Málaga, we searched online and came across URE Centro Gutenberg.
2. After your first appointment, what made you choose URE Centro Gutenberg to pursue motherhood?
We scheduled one-to-one online consultations with several clinics, but URE Centro Gutenberg stood out as the one that best matched our needs. We immediately felt comfortable with the team. The patient coordinators, Nuria and Isabel, as well as Dr Gallardo and Dr Álvarez, were professional, attentive and genuinely caring. Their approach gave us confidence from the very beginning.
3. What doubts did you initially have about assisted reproduction treatment?
Given my age (38) and our infertility diagnosis, we were uncertain about how many eggs could be retrieved and whether they would be viable. There are no guarantees in fertility treatment, and accepting that uncertainty was emotionally challenging.
4. What fears did you have, and how did you overcome them? How did you experience the treatment process?
I chose to trust the process, stay hopeful and take things one step at a time. Having strong family support was essential, as was being able to ask questions freely, especially since we were managing everything from another country.
The clinic was highly organised, professional and experienced in coordinating international cases. They communicated clearly at every stage of the treatment and made us feel supported throughout. I also worked with a liaison doctor in Canada who coordinated medications, ultrasounds and tests with the team at URE. It truly felt like a collaborative effort.
5. What advice would you give to other women or couples considering fertility treatment?
Never give up and try to stay positive throughout the journey. Fertility treatment can be emotionally and physically demanding, but it is absolutely worth it. We travelled across the world to make our dream come true, and today we are the happiest parents to our beautiful baby girl. We are deeply grateful to URE Centro Gutenberg and highly recommend this clinic.
