How does the Embryoscope IVF helps? Positive data from our experience.
What is the Embryoscope IVF?
In IVF treatments, embryos can be cultured in conventional incubators—fully functional systems—or in next-generation incubators like the Embryoscope. This advanced technology captures images every 15–20 minutes, providing valuable information to help us choose the best embryo. Not all fertility clinics have this equipment, as it requires significant investment and highly specialized laboratory staff. At our Unit, we do have the Embryoscope and are experienced in its use.
How does Embryoscope IVF technology work?
The Embryoscope records a complete time-lapse video of the embryo’s cell division from fertilization onward, without removing them from their stable culture environment. This means embryos are not exposed to external risks, and we can identify and discard those that seem normal but go through abnormal cell divisions at any point.
Using Embryoscope IVF technology improves embryo selection and optimizes culture conditions, as the embryos remain in a controlled environment (constant temperature and gas levels) 24/7 without interruption.
All of this leads to noticeably improved results for some patients. Our experience has been very positive. After several years and reviewing 250 IVF cases using patients’ own eggs, we have observed increased pregnancy rates and a reduction in miscarriage rates.
Although Embryoscope can be used in any IVF case, the most significant improvements have been seen in:
- Women aged 38 or older
- Patients with a good ovarian response (i.e., retrieval of 5 or more mature eggs)
In these cases, pregnancy rates increased by 13% and miscarriage rates dropped by 12%—clear signs of success.
Another important finding: among 72 patients with previous IVF failures, when they underwent a new IVF cycle using Embryoscope, 50% achieved pregnancy on the first try with this technology.
All of these results are based on real cases from our Unit, and were even featured in an article published on May 1, 2015 in the newspaper La Opinión de Málaga.
