Lidia tells us her story. “Knowing you’ll be able to have children at some point down the road gives you peace of mind”
Today we bring you a new testimony to be added to our collection of Real Stories from moms and dads, all of which can also be read on our blog. This story is about Lidia, a close friend of the URE family who decided to preserve her fertility to become a mom in the future.
Everyday future moms are deciding to freeze their eggs while they wait until the time is right. Lack of a stable partner, employment status and the diagnosis of a health problem are the most common reasons why women decide to freeze their eggs. The vitrification of oocytes provides security and peace of mind in these situations, and it makes it possible for many women to make their dream of motherhood come true further down the road.
We’ll let you read Lidia’s testimony now!
Tell us how you heard about URE Centro Gutenberg
My sister has worked as a biologist at URE for over 10 years and has also been close friends with the Alonso Muriel family for more than 30 years.
After your first appointment with us, what made you choose URE Centro Gutenberg for fertility preservation treatment?
I was left with no other choice. In addition to the extremely close relationship I have with the entire team, the work they do and their professionalism are excellent.
Why did you decide to freeze your eggs?
Because I was just about to turn 34, I didn’t have a partner at the time and I know for sure that I want to be a mother someday. Psychologically speaking, knowing that I’ll be able to be a mom at any time in the future gives me great peace of mind.
Tell other women what your initial doubts and questions were before embarking on this assisted reproduction treatment
In my case I had very few questions because they perfectly explain everything to you step by step. And during treatment, as you need to go the clinic every few days, they tell you what the next steps are.
What fears did you have, how did you overcome them, how did you feel during treatment…?
In my experience in particular, the “before” was worse than the “during”. I barely had any discomfort or side effects, but that’s different for every woman.
The day of egg collection flew by, and before I knew it I was back at home. There’s no reason to be scared. You simply need to accept that it’s a 12-14 day process, but it’s worth it.
What advice would you give to other women who are thinking about freezing their eggs?
As long as you can handle it financially, I 100% encourage you to do it whether or not you’re set on having children someday. Mentally, knowing you’ll be able to have children at some point down the road gives you a sense of security and peace of mind.
