Mar’s Journey to Motherhood

Real Stories: Mar’s Journey to Motherhood
Today, in our Real Stories section, we bring you a new testimony: the journey of Mar, a woman with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) who trusted us to accompany her on her path to motherhood. Her story is filled with resilience, hope, and the emotions fertility problems inevitably bring.
Thank you so much, Mar. Thank you for sharing your story. You fought like a champion! And not only did you fight for yourself, but you also joined the movement to raise awareness and normalize infertility by sharing your experience on social media — helping future mothers overcome their fears.
At URE Centro Gutenberg, we are incredibly proud of you and honored to be part of your family. Here’s your story.
How did you find out about URE Centro Gutenberg?
I’m an early childhood education teacher, and when I shared what we were going through with some families I trusted, they eventually confessed that they had gone through the same thing. The vast majority had their treatments at URE Centro Gutenberg, so for me, it was always a reference center.
What made you choose URE Centro Gutenberg after your first visit?
Without a doubt, what made us move forward with the treatment and stay at the clinic was the amazing care we received from the very beginning. Everyone treated us with such humanity and kindness, and there was a great vibe — honesty, warmth, and complete transparency throughout the process.
What were your initial concerns before starting assisted reproduction?
When you face assisted reproduction, your mind gets flooded with a thousand questions… Will it work? What does it involve? How will I feel with the medication? Will it hurt? What is ovarian puncture like? The emotions fertility problems cause can be overwhelming at first.
What fertility treatment did the doctors recommend? IUI? IVF? Egg donation?
We had already been to another clinic where we had a bad experience. We had gone through one IVF and two failed embryo transfers. So, when we arrived at Gutenberg, it was clear we were going straight for IVF again.
What were your fears, how did you overcome them, and how did you feel during the treatment?
It was a tough treatment because my ovaries didn’t respond as expected. The final egg count was low, and we knew we were at the limit. My biggest fear was getting to embryo transfer day and having no embryos at all.
My motto throughout the treatment was to stay calm and take it one step at a time. When we finally transferred our only two embryos, I kept telling myself that everything was now out of my hands — all I could do was trust the process. Learning to manage the emotions fertility problems bring became part of my daily mindset.
What advice would you give to other women and couples considering fertility treatment?
I would tell them this journey has many ups and downs. It’s like a rollercoaster. But you have to see it as a path of learning — not as a punishment.
Infertility changes your life and brings many unexpected positives. You learn to put things in perspective, find the bright side, discover who you really are, and realize how strong you truly can be.
And in the end, all the effort and learning pay off… and it’s simply WONDERFUL!
