Megan, Dwayne and Zion tell us their story. “If the doctors tell you ‘it will happen’, ‘not yet’ or ‘take a break’, trust them”

Today we’re sharing a new, real-life testimony with you. This is the story of a patient who came to our fertility clinic in Spain so that we could help make her dream of becoming a mother come true.
It’s a sad story, but one in which obstacles were overcome. A story about a recurrent miscarriage diagnosis and four pregnancy losses.
Thank you to you both! You deserve all this happiness and more. Now to enjoy this next chapter in your lives, and little by little all those years of struggle will become a memory that makes you stronger.
Tell us how you heard about URE Centro Gutenberg
After two years trying to get pregnant, lots of medications and two miscarriages, my private doctor recommended that I go to URE Centro Gutenberg to undergo some testing and look for a solution.
He told me that URE Centro Gutenberg was the best, and he was right.
After your first appointment with us, what made you choose URE Centro Gutenberg?
Dr Álvarez was the doctor who saw me at my first appointment, and he was fantastic. My first impression was that he was interested in helping me, not for the money but to genuinely make my dreams come true.
He told me: “If you didn’t have a problem there wouldn’t be much I could say, but there is an issue and I can tell you that every problem has a solution”. That philosophy is something I still live by. There’s a solution to everything!!
Explain to other moms what questions/doubts you first had about assisted reproduction treatment
The truth is that my only concern about assisted reproduction was not knowing if it was going to work. My biggest issue was always thinking that it wouldn’t happen for me as easily as for those around me.
We had our house, a big car ready for the baby carriage, good jobs, we were married… but we didn’t have a baby. After my second miscarriage I thought that maybe being a mother wasn’t in the cards for me.
What fertility treatment did the medical team recommend? Artificial insemination? In vitro fertilisation? Egg donation?
I don’t have any trouble conceiving, but I have a blood issue. I have Factor V Leiden and MTHFR. I required daily injections to support the embryo, but if I didn’t know I was pregnant I wouldn’t know when to start taking the medications.
By going down the in vitro fertilisation route, the moment the embryo was in my uterus could be controlled so that I could start administering the injections.
What fears did you have, how did you overcome them, how did you feel during treatment…?
I had a total of four miscarriages, removal of a uterine septum and years of medication, panic attacks and private doctors. It felt like it was never-ending and I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.
But finally Dr Álvarez helped me to overcome everything, to stay as calm as possible and he gave me faith. He really focused on my mental health, and that was the most important thing for me. Ever since I started trying to get pregnant I knew something was wrong with me. Everyone told me that it was just stress and then I felt guilty about the miscarriages because I couldn’t stay calm.
During my first pregnancy I went out and bought some things for the baby. When I miscarried I put everything away in a box and never opened it again. I promised myself I wouldn’t open the box or buy anything else until I had my baby at home with me. I had never felt pain or emptiness like that, until it happened three more times.
Then we went to URE Centro Gutenberg and I was only going to try it once. If I didn’t get pregnant after the first attempt then I wasn’t going to try anymore because I couldn’t deal with the pain or go through everything a fifth time. Fortunately I got pregnant the very first time and my son is already eleven months old.
What advice would you give to other mothers and couples who are considering fertility treatment?
I know that you want it right now, and that you can’t wait any longer. But if the doctors tell you ‘it will happen’, ‘not yet’ or ‘take a break’, trust them”.
It’s a difficult journey as a woman and as a couple. You’ll experience the worst moments of your life, but you’ll carry on even though you think you don’t have the strength. You do! Because in the end, whatever happens, the baby will arrive and everything else will seem like a dream.
