What is the RI Witness™ sample identifier?
The RI Witness™ system is a traceability system for identifying each patient’s biological samples of semen, oocytes and embryos. It consists of a radiofrequency identification method that monitors all movements of each sample throughout the treatment.
Why is the RI Witness™ sample identifier important?
Although we have always had very strict control protocols in our laboratories, this system will provide us with greater security, ensuring that there is no margin for error.
How does the RI Witness™ sample identifier work?
At the start of treatment, an identification card is created, which will be the starting point for the entire treatment.
This card is inserted into the readers and allows us to move forward, i.e. only when the patient’s card is identified can the next step be taken, and so on.
In this way, when a patient’s sample comes into contact with a work area in the laboratory, radio frequency receivers automatically check the identity of the samples to ensure that they match. For patients, this means they can focus on the emotional aspects of their journey without worrying about the technical details of sample management. Knowing that every step is being constantly verified provides reassurance and reduces stress, which is particularly valuable during fertility treatments that are often emotionally demanding.
If they do not match, the system sends an audible and visual alarm to the professional performing the process at that moment and blocks the work, preventing it from continuing.
